Parkdale Village Arts Collective (PVAC)
On June 22, 1994 the Parkdale Village Arts
Collective (PVAC) was formed to fulfill an elected mandate to
promote and support a mutually beneficial interaction between
artists, businesses and the community of Parkdale, in Toronto,
Ontario, Canada.
Originally PVAC was an initiative of the Parkdale
Village Business Improvement Association calling artists together
to organize a group to celebrate the arts community in Parkdale.
PVAC was incorporated as a non-profit organization in October
1997. In January 1998 Gallery 1313 was opened to exhibit the works
of PVAC members and others to the public.
The gallery is strongly supported by the community
and received a positive review by Christopher Hume, "Police station's
rebirth as gallery an arresting concept" (Toronto Star, 2/4/98
What's On section). PVAC also publishes a periodical, Artery,
which reports on arts events and artists mostly in the Parkdale
neighbourhood. The Parkdale Village Arts Collective is an artist-run
organization committed to the recognition of excellence in various
cultural and artistic expressions.
PVAC's embracing of equality, inclusion and
celebration of diversity is affirmed through the broad representation
of its membership, affiliations, programming and executive body.
PVAC supports vital contemporary art practices and initiatives
by recognizing the work of emerging and established artists. To
